Diagrams are some of the most ancient and immediate ways to communicate abstract concepts and complex information. This animation breaks down how, exactly, visual diagrams "externalize thought." Viewers are walked through the various components of a typical diagram — dots, lines, frames, circles — with an explanation of their essential roles.
